Timed holds and releases — follow the rep counter in the mirror.
Face Yoga Guide
Chin Fist Jaw Resistance places a soft fist under the chin and gently opens against light upward feedback for four seconds, eight times. It trains jaw openers without forcing end-range. Skip acute TMJ pain, recent jaw injury, or until cleared after jaw procedures.
On the cover, a closed fist rests under the chin while the mouth is slightly open with soft teeth visible. That fist gives light upward feedback as you gently try to open against it — a jaw opener isometric, not a jawline scrape massage and not a chin-to-ceiling kiss.
Sit tall at an eye-level mirror. Make a soft fist and place the flat top of the fist lightly under the chin — match the cover. Soften the brows and shoulders. Gently try to open the mouth against that light upward feedback at about 2–3/10 effort for four seconds, allowing a soft tooth show like the cover if comfortable. Release fully for three seconds so the jaw softens. Repeat eight times. Do not grind the teeth shut against the fist and do not force a painful end-range open.
Mirror at eye level. Shoulders down. Place a soft fist under the chin before any open attempt — match the cover.
Inhale as the fist settles under the chin. Exhale into a gentle open attempt against light feedback. Release on a quiet breath to a soft mouth.
Short mirror phrases — calm, specific, easy to repeat between reps.
“Soft fist under the chin — light only.”
“Open into the feedback; don’t bite down.”
“Neck long, brows quiet.”
“Full release between holds.”
Realistic checkpoints — form, sleep, and SPF still matter more than any single drill.
Easier to feel a true open against light feedback; evening sets feel like a jaw off-switch on most weeks.
Morning stiffness often eases when you pair practice with less daytime clenching.
Fist-under-chin form feels automatic. Structural TMJ issues still need broader care.
A maintenance opener isometric. Supports mobility; does not replace clinical jaw care.
Form cues, safety notes, and how this drill differs from nearby guides.
Massage glides along the jaw edge. This drill uses a fist under the chin for resisted opening — different stimulus, different job.
Kiss the Ceiling tips the chin up toward the sky. Chin Fist keeps the head level and opens against light under-chin feedback.
Wide O is a free tall open. This adds light fist resistance under the chin so the openers work isometrically.
About 2–3/10 — a clear attempt, not a battle. Pain means stop.
A slight open with soft teeth visible is fine. Do not force a huge grin or slam the teeth on the fist.
Gentle opener awareness may feel easing for some mild stiffness. Acute TMJ pain needs clinical guidance — this is not medical treatment.
Three to four short evening sets. Daily hard fighting the fist is not better.
Stay in a smaller pain-free range and monitor. Painful clicking means stop and get advice.
Lighten the fist, shrink the open, and drop the shoulders. Neck cords mean the wrong team is working.
Wait until opening is comfortable and your clinician clears resisted movement.
Easier evening jaw release after talk-heavy days when clenching habits improve too.
Notice the first soft open against the fist without neck hike. That quiet strength is the signal.
